Dr. Roger G. Boyd was a member of The Ohio State University College of Optometry’s Class of 1952. Before beginning his career in optometry, Boyd served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his military service, he returned to Ohio to pursue his education in optometry, earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from Ohio State in 1952.
After graduation, Dr. Boyd began his private practice in Fairborn, Ohio, in a remarkably humble setting: a two-room building where he saw patients in the front and lived in the back. From those modest beginnings, the practice grew into what would become Fairborn Vision Center.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Boyd built a large and respected Fairborn practice and helped give several optometry graduates their start in private practice. He also served two terms on the Ohio State Board of Optometry, including three years as president. In 1968, he was named both Ohio Optometrist of the Year and Ohio State Optometry Alumnus of the Year.
After 47 years of practice, Dr. Boyd retired in 1999. His career began with service to his country, an Ohio State education, and a small two-room office in Fairborn—and ultimately became the foundation for a practice that has served the Fairborn community for generations.

Dr. Elizabeth Snyder, O.D., graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2000. That same year, she was certified by the Ohio State Board of Optometry in the practice of optometry and the treatment and management of ocular disease before joining Fairborn Vision Center as an associate. Her career continued a family tradition established by her father, Dr. Jerry L. Neely, O.D., who joined the Fairborn practice in 1971. Snyder had been familiar with the practice from an early age and had worked there during summers while growing up. She developed her professional practice with a focus on contact lenses, children’s vision, pediatrics, and the treatment and management of ocular disease.
Snyder’s career has also included a strong commitment to community service. She worked alongside her father in providing annual kindergarten vision screenings in Fairborn schools, continuing a program that had been an important part of Dr. Neely’s community involvement for more than three decades. Through these screenings, the two helped identify children who might require further evaluation while bringing vision care directly into local schools. Their shared work became an important part of the family’s connection to the Fairborn community.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Snyder has maintained professional affiliations with the Miami Valley Society of Optometrists, Ohio Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association, as well as involvement in local organizations including the Rotary Club, Fairborn Lions Club, and TWIGS (Dayton Children’s Medical Center). Her career represents both an independent professional path and a continuation of the Neely family’s longstanding commitment to optometry and community service in Fairborn. Through her work at Fairborn Vision Center, she became part of a practice that has served multiple generations of local families.
